Literature Circles

Literature circles are a common tool used to encourage deep reading skills. They can be done in a variety of ways.

Our class "lit circles" are focused on a common theme of social issues around the world. These themes link our ELA outcomes to our grade 7 Social Studies curriculum. The books vary in difficulty, topics and style so that all readers can access conent that is appropriate for their independent reading level. Students discuss the book in 4 parts, where students summarize the novel, make connections, make predictions, or discuss questions they had while reading.

The lit circle group is facilitated by an adult to model the discussion, and students finish their first lit circle with group discussions with an adult leader.

Below are the links to the lit circle resources used in class that are provided to each student.
